16th District House Race – Update #1

As we said before, Don Merricks has gotten an opponent. Let’s go to a breakdown…

Don Merricks – R (incumbent) : Merricks has done a good job in his first term and more importantly hasn’t screwed anything up. He slid right into the seat vacated by Robert Hurt and cruised to a win in his first political run.

Shawn Palmer – D (challenger) : Not much on the board about him yet. He’s young (27) and worked at Telvista until being laid-off (Telvista laid people off?). He’s strong against uranium mining.

Breakdown: Merricks is the prohibive favorite in this race and should cruise to an easy win. The anti-uranium folks will clearly support Palmer, but at the rate they’re going so far, they’ll alienate the people who are still forming their opinions on the matter.

Current prediction: Merricks 65%, Palmer 35%
